Otis Launches Gen3™ Elevators in Thailand, Powering Smart Cities

Otis introduces its Gen3™ platform to enhance smart city development with connected and sustainable elevator solutions.

Bangkok, Thailand – Otis Elevator Company (Thailand) Ltd., a leading manufacturer of elevators, escalators, and moving walkways under Otis Worldwide Corporation, has launched its latest innovation, the Gen3™ connected elevator platform, in Thailand. This launch underscores Otis’ commitment to supporting the development of smart cities in Southeast Asia, particularly Thailand, which is actively pursuing smart city initiatives.

The Gen3 platform, building on the success of Otis’ Gen2 elevator family, is designed to seamlessly integrate with a building’s ecosystem, providing passengers with enhanced connectivity and an exceptional passenger experience.

“As Thailand continues its journey towards establishing more smart cities, investment in smart infrastructure is critical,” stated Worraphan Khemasingki, Managing Director of Otis Elevator (Thailand).

The Gen3 platform incorporates flat-belt technology for energy-efficient operation and a smooth, quiet ride. It also offers a wide range of advanced solutions tailored to meet various needs of people in the digital age.

“The Gen3 elevator combines advancements in experience, design, services, customer support, and health and safety into a single platform, setting a new standard for elevator technology,” Worraphan stated.

In terms of design and experience advancement, Gen3 introduces the Ambience cab design inspired by natural architecture and artworks. The Otis PURE™ elevator control panel combines a sleek glass panel with a brushed stainless steel wire finish, prioritising user accessibility with clear LED numbers and personalisation options for different user needs.

For an enhanced passenger experience, Gen3 elevators include an Otis eView™ display providing passengers with infotainment, including building information, news, and videos. In emergencies, it connects passengers to the 24/7 OTISLINE customer support centre via video chat, providing reassurance and immediate assistance.

The Compass360 intelligent destination management technology helps analyse passenger destinations before they board, optimising travel time and reducing stops.

Post-COVID, the Gen3 elevator is designed with a focus on health and safety, offering a cap air purification system to enhance air quality and touchless technology to minimise physical interaction.

The Gen3 elevator is powered by the Otis ONE™ IoT digital platform, enabling proactive communication by monitoring equipment health and performance 24/7 in real-time. This data is accessible through portals and apps, providing customers with comprehensive visibility into their elevator portfolios and facilitating efficient performance management. The platform also allows OTIS professionals to remotely intervene, identify potential issues, and ensure swift elevator repair, minimising downtime.

Furthermore, the cloud-based APIs enable seamless integration with building management software, autonomous robots, and other tools and services, facilitating a more efficient building environment.

Regarding sustainability, the Otis ReGen™ drive, LED lighting, and sleep mode help reduce energy usage and minimise carbon footprint.

Another standout feature of the Gen3 elevator is its integration with automated robotics systems.

“In the future, passenger elevators will be more than just vertical transportation. They will integrate with automated robotic systems, opening up a world of possibilities for service applications. Imagine robots delivering medication to patients in hospitals or providing room service to hotel guests, all facilitated by the elevator itself,” said Mr. Worraphan.

With a population of over 71 million, Thailand is certainly a significant market for Otis,” said Mr. Grant Mooney, Managing Director for Otis Southeast Asia.

Thailand is the second country in Southeast Asia, after Singapore, to expand the Gen3 elevator platform. Otis plans to launch the platform in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam soon.

Otis has been present in Thailand since 1959. The company currently has over 320 employees in Thailand with service hubs in every region of Thailand, including Bangkok, Pattaya, Had Yai and Khon Kaen. With the launch of the Gen3 elevator, Otis is eyeing to tap potential sectors including residential property developers, commercial buildings, hotels, hospitals, and industrial facilities.

Otis’ commitment to Southeast Asia, particularly Thailand, is evident in its strategic focus on developing innovative solutions that address the region’s growing urbanisation and smart city ambitions. The Gen3 elevator platform represents a significant step towards achieving these goals, providing a connected and sustainable solution for modern buildings while enhancing passenger experience and building efficiency.
