New Road to Phuket Airport Expected to Open by 2028
The Department of Highways is moving ahead with a new road project linking Ban Muang Mai to the Phuket Airport intersection to ease traffic and support the province’s growing tourism and economy.
Director-General Aphirat Chaiyavongnoi said the new road will branch off from Highway 4027 at km 18+850.
It will feature a four-lane asphalt road stretching 1.95 kilometers, with a grade-separated interchange and an elevated bridge crossing footpaths and mangrove areas.
The project also includes improvements to the airport intersection, drainage systems, safety features, and street lighting, with a total budget of 1.3 billion baht.
The project has passed environmental impact assessments and public hearings and is awaiting final approval.
Construction is scheduled to begin in August 2025 and the road is expected to open by 2028.
