First Refined Oil Project in Northeast Thailand Built by Chinese Company Enters Operation

The first refined oil project in northeast Thailand, constructed by China Petroleum Pipeline Engineering Co went into operation on Tuesday. With the capacity of six million tons per year, it is expected to fill the gap of refined oil supply in northeast Thailand.

The refined oil pipeline project, with a length of 342 kilometer in northeast Thailand, is one of the two pipelines for Thailand, and it covers an oil pipeline and supporting pump station, valve room and tank terminal.

Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Supattanapong Punmeechaow highlighted the importance of the project, adding that it will help improve national energy security and boost local economic development, according to peopledaily.com.cn.

The completion of northeast refined oil project will shorten the delivery cycle for oil resources, reduce delivery cost, improve the capacity and keep the stability of oil supply.

The report said over 70 percent of the major mechanical equipment was sourced from China, and all the 29,000 tons of steel came from Baosteel, one of China’s top steel companies.

China Petroleum Pipeline Engineering Co had constructed over 1,500 kilometers of pipeline across Thailand over the past ten years under the Belt and Road Initiative, account for over 60 percent of the country’s total pipelines network.

China Petroleum Pipeline Engineering’s Thailand Branch has also involved in the construction of largest power plant and gas pipeline in middle Thailand’s Ratchaburi region, which is expected to enter operation in September of 2023.
