Construction on Thai coal power project starts

The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) has commenced construction of Mae Moh power plant units 4 – 7 replacement project. It is to replace the previous plants that have operated for 33 yr. The construction will take 46 months to build and commercial operation date is anticipated to be November 2018.

There is a budget of 36 800 million baht, of which 22.41% (8250 million baht) will be invested in facilitates to reduce environmental impacts (SOX, NOX and dust emission), such as selective catalyst reduction, electrostatic precipitator, and flue gas desulfurisation.

The old plant required 13 536 tpd of coal; the use of ultra-supercritical technology at the plant aims to reduce this to 8504 tpd.
