Cambodia’s New Airport in Siem Reap Confirmed to Complete in 2023

In face of the global pandemic, construction process of the new airport in Siem Reap province has been made as planned and it is scheduled to complete in 2023.

In a meeting with H.E. Mao Havannall, Minister in charge of State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA) in Phnom Penh on May 11, Mr. Lu Wei, Chairman of Angkor International Airport Investment (Cambodia) Co., Ltd., said that the on-site work has been resumed in March.

As planned, he added, the airport construction will take 36 months to complete, i.e. in March 2023.

For his part, H.E. Mao Havannall said Cambodian technical officials from the SSCA are ready to assist the company on checking technically, deal with facing issues of the ongoing construction.

The new international airport is located 51 kilometres southeast of Siem Reap provincial city and covers an area of about 700 hectares.

The entire project includes the construction of new 4E runways, taxiways, airside stations, new terminal buildings, airport ancillary projects, and supporting facilities such as municipal and special highways.

The first phase of the project meets an annual passenger throughput of 7 million, with a long-term plan of 20 million passengers. The estimated total investment is about US$880 million and the investment period is 50 years.

Currently, Cambodia has three operational international airports and other three new airports including the new airport in Siem Reap province being under construction.
