Thailand’s largest retailer Central Group recently announced plans to develop a THB13 billion (US$427.4 million) Central Embassy complex on a 9-rai plot of land acquired from the British Embassy.
Slated to open in the last quarter of 2013, the 37-floor complex will comprise of an 8-storey retail mall offering a comprehensive mix of internationally-renowned luxury and local contemporary fashion brands; a full-service spa; an innovative concept book store; a range of dining options; as well as Thailand’s first ultra-premium cinema complex. It will also include a 30-floor luxury hotel tower with 222 rooms, to be managed by international hotel brand Park Hyatt.
According to Central Embassy’s managing director Chart Chirathivat, the building is expected to become Bangkok’s first iconic retail building upon its completion. It will lead to a 400-metre combined façade for Central Embassy and the nearby Central Chidlom, with a skybridge connecting the two.
“The conceptualisation of this project is based on our insightful and thorough study of changing consumer trends and lifestyles ranging from present day behaviors to future expectations. We pay as much attention to their emotional needs as their rational ones so we can offer them exactly what they want,” he said.
