One Year On, Families of Bangkok’s State Audit Office 2025 Earthquake collapse Victims Mourn Losses, Demand Answers
28 March 2026 marks one year since the earthquake-triggered collapse of the State Audit Office (SAO) building in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district, which killed 93 people, left three missing and injured eight.
Relatives of the victims gathered at the site on Saturday morning to make merit and pay tribute to those lost.
Surrounded by debris and the ruins of the structure, many mourners broke down in tears, saying they are still unable to come to terms with the tragedy.
Despite the passage of a year, families say they are still waiting for clarity on what caused the collapse and who should be held responsible, calling on authorities to provide answers.
Compensation of 500,000 baht per family was provided by the contractors, but relatives say no amount of money can replace their loved ones.
The construction site remains largely deserted, with most debris cleared, though parts of the structure and exposed steel reinforcements are still visible.
Authorities are in the process of returning the land lease to the State Railway of Thailand.
Families say their grief remains unresolved, with many still revisiting the site in search of closure while continuing to demand accountability one year after the disaster.
