Eight bidders – consisting of construction firms in Thailand, China, South Korea and Japan – yesterday submitted bids for the construction works under the government’s Bt350 billion water management project.
Yesterday was the last day where bids could be submitted. All are required to come up with the broad construction concept and the executive summary. Some bidders came with truck-loaded document. Water Resources loaded the 600 boxes of document in six pickup trucks. Loxley JV brought in the smallest volume of document, only 20 boxes.
The eight bidders are Water Resources Corporation, ITD-PowerChina JV, Summit SUT JV, Team Thailand, China CAMC Engineering, Japanese-Thai JV, Consortium TKC Global and Loxley Consortium.
A committee chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Plodprasop Suraswadi will call for interviews with each bidder on Dec 28. Three companies would be shortlisted on Jan 31 for the development in the Chao Phraya River basin, while other threes for the development in the Northeastern basin.
This is the first mega project by the Thai government in years, which is expected to create the “crowd-in” effect. Private investment is expected to grow in line with the government spending on much-needed infrastructure projects.
