Anantara Trang Continues Operating Despite Demolition Order

Making news in Thailand is the Anantara Si Kao Resort in Trang which has been judged by the Supreme Court to encroach on public land.

The property is operated by Minor Hotel Group as an Anantara, for Thai owning entity JBB.

Over a protracted legal battle led by Thailand’s National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation Department the case went to the Appeals Court and eventually Supreme Court.

The hotel owner has been asked to remove the hotel from the land area as the land title has been canceled, otherwise the government will demolish the property.

Currently the hotel which a number of years ago operated as an Amari, is fully operational.

Thailand has few examples of successful actions to demolish hotels deemed to be illegal with the most recent being the Aetas Hotel Bankgok which is currently facing the wrecking ball by the BMA (Bangkok Metropolitan Authority).
